What is Springboard Phonics?
Springboard Phonics has been designed to support and promote reading through a comprehensive overview of all phonics sounds. Springboard Phonics offers an innovative approach to the methodology of teaching phonics, whilst covering all phonics sounds set out within the Department for Education (DfE) framework.
What age is Springboard Phonics for?
Before children learn to read and write they need to develop their phonological and phonemic awareness: being able to listen and identify sounds and understand how they go together in words.
Phonics is taught explicitly in schools from reception (age 4) to year 2 (age 7), however many nurseries begin teaching phonics as part of their practice to facilitate speech and language development and provides the building blocks for learning to read and write.
Springboard Phonics is designed to complement and enhance the formal teaching of phonics and can be used effectively from nursery age to age 7, to help parents prepare and support their children further by familiarising them with the phonics sounds and their letter representations.
Are there any other books available beyond the Springboard Series Book Collection?
The Springboard Series Book Collection covers the first sounds within the Alphabet Sounds series: sounds A,B and C and matching sounds. This has been created to introduce Springboard Phonics as a concept, to help enhance and support your child’s enjoyment and understanding of reading as a progressive and exciting journey.
How does Springboard Phonics work?
Springboard Phonics teaches children to read and recognise the phonics sounds taught in educational settings through an innovative methodology - a unique approach to the order the letters and sounds are presented. Complemented by visually stimulating imagery, enhanced comprehension activities and further reading opportunities, Springboard Phonics promotes a love of reading to facilitate the building blocks for learning to read and write as early as possible.
Is Springboard Phonics validated by the Department for Education (DfE)?
Whilst Springboard Phonics is not currently validated by the DfE, Springboard Phonics has reviewed, researched and implemented the criteria and guidance for advice on the sounds to be taught, through the DfE framework; within the context of the current National Curriculum.

All DfE phonics criteria for early reading is included in its entirety in the Springboard Phonics Sound Cloud Grapheme Chart, which informs all Springboard Phonics products, though the methodology adopted is an innovative approach to the teaching styles offered within existing phonics programmes.

Springboard Phonics continues to structure and develop its content to consistently align its teaching with the DfE requirements of a validated systematic, synthetic phonics programme (SSP) in its own unique but effective approach.
